Pre-school & Kindergarten (ages 3-5)

Pre-Primary 1

Pre Primary One is off to a great start in our new home! Children and staff are very excited about the facility and the new atmosphere. My name is Laila Kane. I have been a part of the Howard Gardner School for the past 8 years. I have a B.A. in Elementary Education and an International Montessori Certificate for children ages 3 to 6 years. My classroom assistant, of 8 years, is Marilyn Caputo.

We are thrilled for the privilege of teaching your child. Our class composition is 7 kindergarten students and 13 preschool students. We have more very young children than we have had recently, so our first priority is settling into our routines. We have several group sessions on our new “cushions” each day and then embark on our individual “good hard works”!

Aside from our classroom work, the children have the following integrated arts schedule: Monday – Music & Art; Tuesday- Mandarin; Wednesday- Music; Friday- Art& Gym.

The Kindergarten class will have Science on Tuesday PM and Spanish on Wednesday and Friday PM.

We encourage parents to keep in touch with us about any needs or concerns for your child. When observations are open, we welcome visitors by appointment.

Pre-Primary 2

I am Jaci Sandercock and am the teacher in this class. My assistant is Pita MacFarland. We have been working together for 9 years. I have a Bachelor’s degree from Marywood University and am certified as a Montessori teacher for 3-6 year olds.

We are always excited about the start of a new year, but especially this year being in a new building. We are all working on finding our way around. We will be taking tours of the school and we leave the classroom almost everyday to go to our integrated arts classes. So I’m sure we will be comfortable in our new space in no time.

There are 20 children in our class, 8 of whom are in kindergarten. We are getting to know each other by singing the friend song and our most important rule is the Golden Rule – treating other people the way we want to be treated.

Along with the academics of numbers and letters, we will be doing seasonal works such as works with apples, leaves and pumpkins. We are all looking forward to using our outdoor space as much as possible. We know we will have a fantastic year because we are off to such a good start.

Pre-Primary 3

Sara Wintermute is the classroom teacher and Betsy Briganti is the classroom assistant. Sara graduated in 2009 from Lycoming College with an Elementary Teaching Certification and a BA in History.

We are very excited about our new building! Our classroom is jungle themed this year! We have 8 kindergarten children and 12 preschool in our classroom for a total of 20. We have a lot of new friends this year and are excited to get to know them. Our class will be sending our homemade “Meet Our Class” book home with our students to help everyone get to know our class! We also will send home a “School Workers Book” to help introduce the school staff to students and their families.

Our specials this year will include: Mandarin, Music, Art, Spanish, and Physical Education. The kindergarteners will also be getting science. We look forward to having a very busy/exciting year!
