For many years we have had ice cream as an end of the year reward. It was served in Styrofoam cups with plastic spoons. This year we wanted to make a change.
Styrofoam is bad for the Earth. Styrofoam is not biodegradable and causes pollution. It is made of fossil fuels and is easily breakable so is hard to clean up. Sea turtles, marine mammals and fish can be harmed or killed by Styrofoam. On our neighborhood clean up we have found Styrofoam and it can not be recycled.
This year our ice cream will be served in biodegradable containers that are made of wheat. Plant fibers are compostable. Instead of plastic spoons we are using spoons made of wood. Howard Gardner is a Litter Free Zone.
Join us and reduce, reuse and recycle at home!
